Beary Cherry Tree Expands to Meet Growing Community Needs

A major milestone for Jefferson Parish’s early childhood education landscape was reached this month as Beary Cherry Tree unveiled a substantial expansion to their campus. The newly constructed 4,000-square-foot facility represents a significant investment in the community’s future, creating over 100 new childcare spots and 20 job opportunities.

This expansion arrives at a critical time when reliable childcare options are essential for workforce stability. By increasing capacity to serve more than 100 additional families, this development actively supports economic growth by enabling more parents to participate in the workforce with confidence that their children are receiving quality care.

  • 103 new childcare spots created
  • 20 new jobs added to the local economy
  • 4,000 sq. ft. facility added to existing campus
  • $400,000 investment from education funding

Economic Impact on the Community

The Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission (JEDCO) and Jefferson Chamber of Commerce have highlighted this expansion as an example of how childcare infrastructure directly contributes to economic development.

“This project represents a significant opportunity for the future of Jefferson Parish. Not only is this an investment in our children, but it is also an investment in the success of our workforce. High-quality childcare is an essential component of a thriving business environment.”
Jerry Bologna, JEDCO President & CEO

The expansion benefits the community in multiple ways: it provides immediate employment opportunities, supports working parents, and invests in early childhood education that helps build the foundation for tomorrow’s workforce.

A Legacy of Growth and Community Service

What began in 1974 as a small operation has evolved into a cornerstone of Jefferson Parish’s childcare landscape. From its early days serving just 30 children, Beary Cherry Tree has grown into an impressive 25,000-square-foot campus with five facilities and the capacity to nurture 380 children.

Now celebrating its 50th anniversary, this family-owned business continues to thrive under third-generation leadership. The center currently employs 50 teachers, with plans to expand their educational team further.

“As a lifelong resident of Jefferson Parish, education is in my blood. My story is deeply intertwined with this community—it’s where I was raised, where I built my business, where my husband and I raise our children, and where I’m privileged to help shape the next generation.”
Paula Polito, third-generation owner of Beary Cherry Tree

Funding and Future Impact

This expansion was made possible through a $400,000 investment, supported by Louisiana Department of Education COVID/ARPA funding. Beyond creating additional capacity, the investment allows Beary Cherry Tree to increase teacher salaries and improve educational quality through enhanced staff development programs.

Local officials note that the timing aligns perfectly with Jefferson Parish’s Bicentennial celebrations, highlighting how longstanding institutions like Beary Cherry Tree contribute to the community’s legacy and future prosperity.

The project demonstrates how targeted investments in early childhood education can yield multiple benefits: supporting working families, creating jobs, and building foundations for the next generation of community members.
